Sun Hudson

Sun Hudson was removed from life support by a Texas Children's Hospital staffer at 2pm on March 15, 2005. His mother did not want his breathing tube removed, but a Texas law (signed by former Governor George W. Bush) allows a hospital to end life support for a patient if its ethics board deems the treatment non-beneficial and the patient is unable to pay.

On Monday March 21st, Republicans and President George W. Bush signed emergency legislation in an attempt to save and prolong the life of Terri Schiavo against the wishes of her husband.

Where was the political and religious outcry for Sun? Why didn't the Republicans rush to create a "great political issue" out of trying to save his life?

White House Hypocrisy

This kind of thing is to be expected from this administration. Very public cases only, ignore the little guy - it mirrors their tax cuts as well. If they gave a damn about Americans at all, we'd be talking about the lack of heath coverage for millions of U.S. Citizens.

We're heading into the **dark** hours of American history right now. Children will study about the failures of this admin for years to come. That is unless we leave all children behind with the no child left behind plan.

The Living Law

Look into the future with me and see, not so far away, the legislation of a new law that makes it illegal for the US citizens to die. Imagine an America where the gov't is so intrusive that it passes laws that apply to specific individuals based on their debt. Why? Because it would be the duty of the state to guarantee that no one is allowed their odious demise. Especially when there is money to be made.

The credit card companies and pharmaceutical companies would back it, because they could use the life-supported, but practically dead populace, as experiments to further drug studies in the infernal hopes of creating life sustaining drugs, and of course the moneys earned could go to pay off the undead's immense credit debt.

Families afraid to be saddled with their loved one's accumulated debt would sign away the mortality of their loved ones to escape their crippling debt.

UH, maybe someone already thought of it. I found this trailer on [quicktime.com](http://www.apple.com/trailers/dreamworks/the_island/)

One last thing I don't get it. If all the political push to keep this poor woman alive is coming from the supposed Christian camp, who believe in an after-life in which the those who have departed spend enternity in heaven, why then keep this woman alive in a prison of of broken flesh. Especially when alternative is to offer her eternal bliss. There is a disconnect somewhere. Unless they think she was an unredeemed sinner and they are trying to prolong her sojourn into damanation.

Okay, maybe I'm taking it a bit to far. But consider these excerpts from an article on [Slate.com](http://www.slate.com/id/2115123/fr/nl/):

>A few days ago, two congressional committees subpoenaed Schiavo to testify before them. Testify? She's impervious and mute. "The purpose of the subpoenas is to preserve the evidence," explained a committee chairman. The evidence was Schiavo.

Moreover consider the talking points:

> President Bush, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay keep saying the case is about "defending life," "a presumption in favor of life," "building a culture of life," and the dignity of the human person.

Now, you tell me, how far off this future of Living Law is.

Living Wills

Write yours now, code0rangers. You could end up being in a vegitative state for 23 years too. I would put my life in the hands of loved ones if I thought they would do what I wanted them to do. Unfortunately, emotion often gets in the way of judgement.

I'm going to a notary tomorrow and write on a napkin *unplug my ass* so they can stamp it **official**.

You know Bill Frist (a heart surgeon) used to unplug people all the time. He's the king of hypocrisy for getting into the evangelical end of this argument.

Brain damage

If she said she wanted to die, then I have no problem. But it's too hard in this case, since she can't communicate. Without consciousness, how does she have soul? Is she still her? Who decides her fate? The gov? Her husband? Or her parents? Man, once you damaged yo brain, it's the end of yo life. It's impossible to fix the brain, it's not like the other tissues. Doctors are powerless. Even if yo're immortal, what for if yo're just vegetative? Will stem cell be able to help this in the near future? Only Jesus could fix it, but he ain't no here.

Moral values

If I had been laying there in a vegetative state for 15 years, then I would hope and pray that my partner and family would just let me die. Even if I had my IQ and consciousness intact then I would still want to die. I cannot even begin to comprehend how miserable that existence would be.

It would infuriate me to know that the Governor, the President and Congress had interfered in the decision of my fate just so that they could grandstand and show everyone what fine Christian moral values they have, when really they were just trying to make their party look good for the 2006 elections.

Why no outrage about Sun Hudson?

It's pretty easy to figure out.

If you have money, and you are white - you get all sorts of people 'caring' about you, even when things are hopeless. Randall Rescue Terry, 'Doctor' [sic] Bill Frist, the 'Bugman' Tom Delay and the fraud masquerading as President all jumped through hoops to make a big stink about this poor woman - a woman who has not been sentient for 15 years .

But if your mama is poor, black, single, even if she wants you to live - you will die - In Sun Hudson's case, this child was a sentient being, and there was a heck of a lot better chance of survival; stem cell research or some other medical breakthrough could have made his life closer to normality.

Where's the press covering this story, of the first legal hospital killing in the nation's history?

Re; Sun Husdon

The difference between Sun Hudson and Terry Shiavo is that Sun Hudson was black and poor, Terry Shiavo was white and rich.
