Democrats control House & Senate for first time in more than a decade

It's finally happened. Karl Rove has been felled.

In a surprise to this voter, the Democrats came out strong and saw an election thorough to win a majority in the House and the Senate. It doesn't hurt that we have a huge 8 fingered organic farmer on our side, either (D-MO).

The sad fact I'm sure I'm not the first to tell you is that the gay marriage ban won in 6 of the 7 states in which it was on the ballot. The only sane state, apparently, is AZ.

Cheers, Dems - now get to work.

Katherine Harris still crazy

>Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws."

>"If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," Harris said.

LOL! This lady has lost her mind. God gave her a face once, so why did she not accept it? Did God want her to get plastic surgery?

:-)

Pirate for Congress

In Iowa, James Hill, a self-proclaimed drunken pirate, is running for congress, and his website is hilarious.

Here are a couple sections that I think are well beyond awesome:

This entire lay out was designed by my Samoan Body guard A.J. Sorenson at my own expense.

The guy has a friggin Samoan Body guard who is a web desginer. Sweet!!

Do not expect me to get on the band wagon of heart wrenching divisive social subjects. This is how the standard Politicians have kept us distracted while they sold their votes to the highest bidders. I have opinions on everything and many good ideas to be shared thru the campaign. My goal remains to remove the money from politics, by giving you a candidate who takes no money.

NYC anti-protest and biking regulations

Sometimes, I like Bloomberg...In fact lately, he has been growing on me, but it never lasts long. Something like this always comes along to remind me that though he is liberal on many issues, he is just too damn eager to walk all over the rights of people who he disagrees with.

As I discovered during the RNC back in 2004, Bloomberg and the NYPD supress our [constitutional right to peaceably assemble](http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html). In the wake of those past authoritarian [gulianiesque](http://www.newyorker.com/archive/content/?040301fr_archive01) crackdowns, the courts decided that the NYPDs "crowd control" regulations were too broad. Now Critical Mass and other biking activists are under attack again from the Bloomberg administration. The [NYPD is seeking new rules designed to crack down on Protesters and Bicyclists](http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/19/nyregion/19demo.html?ex=1310961600&en=...):

New Jersey is Closed Today, Please Come Back Later

New Jersey is officially closed for business, so to speak.

Perhaps not really closed, but certainly running with a skeleton crew!

>The dice stopped rolling, dealers quit shuffling and slot machines fell silent Wednesday as New Jersey's casinos closed for the first time, the latest victims of a five-day state government shutdown that showed no signs of ending soon.

>In the first mass closure in the 28-year history of Atlantic City's legalized gambling trade, all 12 casinos went dark. With no state budget, New Jersey cannot pay its state employees, including casino inspectors who keep tabs on the money.

let's just sell the whole damn country

The beat goes on. OK my perspective on all things nuclear is perhaps clouded by the fact that my house is about 100 miles from Yucca Mountain. Nevertheless, even if one completely ignores the disposal part of the equation, why did the NRC license a foreign consortium to [enrich weapons grade Russian uranium](http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/24/us/24nuke.html?_r=1&oref=slogin)
in New Mexico, last known to be a part of the USA? And at last report, no one has quite figgered out what to do with the radioactive stuff of all kinds that we already have on these shores.

fshizzlefooey again.

Garrison Keillor's note to Republicans

Can't...stop...from posting...political...article...

>I see by the papers that the Republicans want to make an issue of Nancy Pelosi in the congressional races this fall: Would you want a San Francisco woman to be Speaker of the House? Will the podium be repainted in lavender stripes with a disco ball overhead? Will she be borne into the chamber by male dancers with glistening torsos and wearing pink tutus? After all, in the unique worldview of old elephants, San Francisco is a code word for g-a-y, and after assembling a record of government lies, incompetence and disaster, the party in power hopes that the fear of g-a-y-s will pull it through in November.

Psst - wanna buy a National Forest?

OK folks. The Bushies have started to notice that outflow is a tad bigger than income. So what to do? A perfect revenue source - [sell 300,000 acres of National Forest from sea to sea](http://usgovinfo.about.com/b/a/217042.htm)! Developers Paradise! As if $1 billion makes a difference in the current and future deficit. Maybe they're planning to burn the trees to get the country less dependent on foreign oil. Fshizzlefooey.
